How Much Does a Philippine Visa Extension Cost?

Extending your stay is not free. The Bureau of Immigration (BI) charges different fees depending on how many months you add to your visa. If you plan to live here long-term, you must factor these costs into your monthly budget before you book your flight.

⚠️ Budget Warning: The fees below are approximate and subject to change by the BI without public notice. Always bring extra cash. If your visa expires even one day late, you will pay heavy penalty fines on top of these extension fees.

Standard Tourist Visa Extension Fees (2026 Estimates)

Extension Type When to Apply Approx. Cost (PHP) Approx. Cost (USD)
Initial Waiver (29 days) Before your first 30 days expire ~₱3,030 ~$53
1-Month Extension After the initial waiver ~₱3,030 ~$53
2-Month Extension Anytime after 59 days ~₱4,900 ~$86
6-Month Extension Anytime after 59 days ~₱11,500 ~$200

Hidden Costs You Must Plan For

  • Express Processing Fee: Standard processing takes 3 to 5 working days. If you need your passport back the same day or next day, add ~₱1,000 ($18) for express service.
  • ACR I-Card Fee: If you extend past 59 days, you must buy an Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR I-Card). This costs ~$50 USD and is valid for one year.
  • Photocopies: BI offices do not provide free printing. Budget ₱50-₱100 for photocopies of your passport and flight tickets at local shops outside the BI office.

🗣️ The Reality: What Expats Wish They Knew Before Flying

  • Cash is King: While some major malls accept credit cards, the card machines at BI offices are frequently broken. Always bring exact cash in Philippine Pesos.
  • The “Cheaper” Trap: Many newcomers extend 1 month at a time to save cash flow. This is a mistake. The administrative fees make 1-month extensions much more expensive per day than a 6-month extension. If you have the budget, buy the 6-month block.
  • Fines are brutal: If you forget your expiry date and overstay by just one week, you will pay a ₱500 fine per month of overstay, plus a ₱1,000 “Motion for Reconsideration” fee. Set an alarm on your phone the day you get your passport stamped.
