WHAT: A rumor is spreading that the new FIV (FAB-Investor Visa) grants dual citizenship or a Philippine passport. This is false.
WHERE: Nationwide (Discussed heavily in expat Facebook groups and by unlicensed “visa agents”).
THE REALITY: The $95,000 FIV grants you Permanent Residency (PR). This means you can live in the Philippines forever without doing visa runs. However, you remain a citizen of your home country. You do not get a Philippine passport, and you do not get the right to vote.
THE LAW: The Philippines only allows dual citizenship for natural-born Filipinos. If a foreigner ever wants to become a Philippine citizen (which takes 10+ years of residency), the law requires them to give up their original passport.
WHEN REPORTED: October 2026.
SOURCE: Official FIV program guidelines and Philippine immigration law.
STATUS: Confirmed.
WHAT TO DO: If an agent promises you a “second passport” or “dual citizenship” for a $100k investment in the Philippines, walk away. They are either confused or trying to scam you. You are paying for permanent residency, nothing more.
